We are a home educating family and we live in Essex. We took our six year old daughter (now 10) out of school September 2005. Our son is 4 years old and will also not being going to school at any point!! This blog was originally started to talk about what we do as a home ed family but over time it has just turned into a general blog which includes our pets, our family and our everyday lives. I guess our home education journey is just us living our lives anyway. If you have any questions or comments please email me at xscrunchee@aol.com

It's nearly christmas!!!! :-)

Hello :-D

Well, the headache has pretty much stayed gone so I am very happy.

The kids are over the moon that Christmas is nearly here. Yesterday they got to open the first door on their advents so they know that the big guy will be here soon. lol

I have been busy lately which is why I haven't posted for a while. I have been getting xmas pressies on line. So much easier than the stress of going shopping. I am pleased that Father Christmas gets the children's bits as I have no idea how I would find the time to sort out their things too.

I have also set up a sellers account on Ebay just to help de-clutter our house.
So far we have only got a pair of shoes and 2 brass cats on there. OH got the cats from a charity shop because I have a passion for polishing brass but do not want to end up with a house full of brass bits so after I have had the enjoyment of polishing the things, I can stick them on Ebay and use any money I make to buy more!!! Yes-I know I'm sad!!!!! lol lol lol
I have tried to find relaxing things to do to help prevent my stress headaches and polishing brass is one of my relaxation techniques.

I have also come to the conclusion that I have been worrying too much about being a 'good' parent and I have read so many books telling me the best ways to be fun, kind, understanding etc that I have now finally realised that I am not a bad parent in the first place!! lol
I don't need to learn how to have fun as we have plenty of fun anyway, I don't need to stress about being 'not stressed' because I am pretty chilled anyway-especially when I am not trying too hard to be relaxed. So, I think I will carry on being me!! I think there is nothing wrong with developing and growing into better people but I feel that I read these books and started to doubt myself and tried to change who I am.
I have learnt that I am not so bad. I love my children, I spend every waking minute with them and we laugh and have fun every day, I home educate them and love watching them blossom.
I hear other Mums speaking to their children when we are out and about and think that maybe some of those Mum's could do with reading my books more than myself as they seem to shout, swear and feel hostile to their children-so what on earth do I worry about??? lol

I am still trying to keep up with my positive thinking though and it is paying off.
I was struggling to get Liam a body warmer (He won't wear his coat as it restricts his arms and stresses him out). I decided to keep thinking that I would find one and it would be perfect.
Guess what? The next day-found one. Ordered and paid for it and it's on it's way :-)

Also had to get both of the kids new shoes. This normally involves tears, tantrums and a whole heap of stress (and that's just from me-lol), anyway, it is normally hard work as both of them complain the whole time, nothing fits, they don't like the look of them etc. This time, for a few hours before we were due to leave I imagined walking into the shop, feeling calm, the kids choosing shoes, trying them on and being happy, paying for them and walking out.
Guess what? That is exactly what happened. Not a tear in sight. Both got new footwear, both were happy!! 100% stress free.

I am also doing something new which I saw on The One Show.
Every night I am writing down 3 positive things that happened that day. Doesn't matter what you write-just as long as it is positive.
Apparently after 1 week of doing this your stress levels decrease and you have more of a sense of wellbeing. The longer you do this for-the happier you start to feel in general.
Well-I have nothing to loose and have done this for 3 nights so far.
Will let you know how it goes.

Anyway-must stop waffling now.
Feel free to have a look at my Ebay items http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/xscrunchee_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ

(Wow-long link lol)

Quick update on Gareths tooth-he ended up having the tooth extracted as the infection was so severe I think he would have ended up in hospital or worse!!!! Looked like the elephant man bless him! Also, in my last post I said something about £250 to get the root canal re-done but I was wrong. It was £190. lol
Not that it matters now anyway as the tooth has been pulled but I wanted to confess!! LOL

Also-a couple of pics for you.........................
Ricks finished tat :-) Looks good doesn't it?
A recent pic of the cheeky pair.

See you soon :-)
Take care and be happy.
