We are a home educating family and we live in Essex. We took our six year old daughter (now 10) out of school September 2005. Our son is 4 years old and will also not being going to school at any point!! This blog was originally started to talk about what we do as a home ed family but over time it has just turned into a general blog which includes our pets, our family and our everyday lives. I guess our home education journey is just us living our lives anyway. If you have any questions or comments please email me at xscrunchee@aol.com

Happy Easter!

Just a quick message to wish you all a very Happy Easter.
Emmie woke up at 2am because she was soo excited and it took her until around 4am to go back to sleep but she was still up at half 5 as she just couldn't wait any longer!!! lol lol Bless.

All's going well here. The children are fine-they were enjoying the nice warm weather although it was short lived. Spent lots of time in the garden playing and enjoying themselves.

The pets are all doing well. Little Nanna (tortoise) has grown 1 cm since we have had her. lol
We have a couple of new additions joining us soon too. Nadine's guinea pigs.
Now she is at college she feels that she doesn't have as much time for them as she would like and being that Emmie and Liam have been going on about wanting guinea pigs she thought that maybe if they are here she can still see them all of the time but without having to worry about giving them enough time and Emmie and Liam get to take care of them which will make them very happy. I will put some pics on when I can.

So now that's...............1 dog, 3 cats, 1 snake, 2 Giant African Land snails, 1 tropical fish tank, 1 fish pond, 3 hens, 1 tortoise and 2 guinea pigs!!! Mmmm, quite a few pets now. lol lol I love them all so much though so it may seem like sheer madness but I'm happy. Madness suits me quite well. lol

I have also put my Reiki on Ebay. 7 days of distance healing for £3.50 or there abouts (Negotiable dependant on individual circumstances). 30% of the money will go to Childline which is in my opinion a very worthy cause.
If you are interested please take a look..........................

So, busy, busy, busy here.
Hope that you are all well.

Please take care and I'll try to come back soon.

Jay xx Be happy :-)

I done it again!!

Hello peeps,

Well I've gone and done it again haven't I?? Ignored my blog for months that is!!
Oh dear.

Never mind. Not much I can do now. Just seems that time flies and there are always more important/interesting things going on and before I know what's what-months have passed.

Bit late to wish you all a happy new year being that we're in April. lol

Anyway, not much to report so I will just give a brief update.

We are all fine. The children are fine, my family are fine.
My sister Nadine is getting on really well with her child care college course, my brother Rick has had a second tatoo now (I will add some pics at some point), my brother Dave is fine doing his thing and my brother Gareth is still at the pub pulling pints :-)

I am continuing with my gentle discipline techniques with the children and they are getting on great. Life is very calm and enjoyable. Much more relaxed than before.

One great thing I have learned with my children is to validate their feelings.
I think that most parents have trouble validating a feeling and instead just dismiss it completely.

Validating is very easy after a little practice. It just means accepting and listening to the feeling in a supportive way.
It does not mean trying to cheer the child up, give in to their wishes, trying to 'fix' everything.
It simply means listening and acknowleding.

Eg- Child, 'I want to go home right now. I'm bored!'
Parent, 'You sound like you have had enough of being here now. I know how it feels to have to be somewhere when you just want to go home.'
Child, 'Can we go home now then? Pleeease?'
Parent, 'No, I'm sorry-we cannot leave just yet.'
Child, 'It's not fair, I just want to go home!!!! I hate it here!' (Starts to cry)
Parent, 'I know, I know. I can see that you feel very upset right now.'
Parent comforts child with a gentle hug while child sobs and cries. All the while the child is upset/angry just be there. Just listen and speak in a gentle tone.
Sometimes we just need our feelings recognised and once we are sure that someone understands exactly how we feel-we can move on.

I have used this with my children countless times now and with practice it feels quite natural and the children move on from the situation much quicker.

I don't try to fix everything, I don't ignore their pain or dismiss their feelings-I just listen and support them. They do stop being upset or angry and go off and play happily.

I know that if I told a friend that I was upset and they told me that there was nothing for me to be upset about-I would feel hurt. It would play on my mind and I would wonder why no-one understood me.
If I say that I am hungry-I am. If I say that I am hot, tired, bored, angry, cold....... I am. I would find it rude for someone to tell me that the feeling I am having is not real and they know how I feel better than I do.
But-adults would never be so rude to eachother.
A friend says that they are feeling upset, you would ask why and listen to them.
A child says that they are upset and we tell them that there is no point being upset and they should get over it and go and play!
No wonder children struggle to work the world out.

Anyway, I will carry on with what I am doing as it is working great for us. Of course-different things work for different people.

I am now using Reiki healing daily now too.
I am using crystals, Reiki and learning how to live a more peaceful life. I am enjoying the journey very much and my house is a nicer place to be-filled with positive, loving energy.

It's all good here :-) (Not bad being that I was quite the pessimist not so long ago) lol
Hope that everything is fine with all of you too.

Happy thoughts :-)

Take care and if you want to chat or have any questions-please email as who knows when I'll be back here!! ;-) lol
