We are a home educating family and we live in Essex. We took our six year old daughter (now 10) out of school September 2005. Our son is 4 years old and will also not being going to school at any point!! This blog was originally started to talk about what we do as a home ed family but over time it has just turned into a general blog which includes our pets, our family and our everyday lives. I guess our home education journey is just us living our lives anyway. If you have any questions or comments please email me at xscrunchee@aol.com

Raising your spirited child

See, I didn't leave it as long this time. lol

Just wanted to pop on to tell you about a book that I have just read.
Raising your spirited child by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka.
Excellent book filled with tips and advice.

I have read quite a few books over the past year or two and this one definitely decribes both of my children 100%.

We also have a book called 'What to do when you worry too much.' but haven't got round to reading it yet. I bought this book mainly for Emmie.
It gives you tools to help you worry less. I will report back when she has read it to let you know how she gets on.

Reading these type of books gives me confidence.
I wouldn't say that I parent from books, rather I get hints and tips and work with what feels right for us.

I feel that sometimes I lack the confidence and assertiveness to do what I want to do.
I have my own ideas and opinions but worry what others think or get scared that people are judging me.

The more books I read the more comfortable I feel doing things my way.
I no longer feel that I have to do things in a certain way to get the best results.
I feel confident that my children will grow up well balanced and be nice people to know.
I understand that how they behave now is no indication how they will behave in 10 years from now.
There is no right or wrong way. Many people bring children up in many different ways.
The results are mixed. All I know is that if I follow my heart-we'll be ok.

I no longer care if people judge me as being a bad Mum because my child has an outburst at not wanting to go somewhere or try something new and I don't 'crack down' on them or any of the other issues that we face on a daily basis.

People can judge all they like. My children are happy and that is what truly matters to me.
They know that I understand and I am there to help them.

Have a great day and take care.

Well, it has been said that I do not post very much these days ;-)
I have no idea why really, lack of time? Nothing interesting to write about? lol Who knows.
However, I will try to pop on a little more often :-)

Take care and I hope to be back soon xx
